MonitorMenlo.news is intentionally designed to minimize the collection and use of personal information. The Site does not require visitors to create accounts, submit personal information, accept cookies, or permit behavioral tracking in order to read its content. Visitors are asked to accept the Terms of Use once per browsing session before reading Site content, using a temporary, non-identifying browser flag described in Section 2 — this is separate from, and does not change, the Site's no-cookie, no-tracking design. This Privacy Policy explains the limited technical information necessarily processed to deliver the Site and the Site operator's practices regarding that information, and includes a dedicated section for California residents (Section 11). This policy should be read together with the Terms of Use, and is incorporated by reference into it.
Should these practices materially change, this Privacy Policy will be revised before the changes become effective.
Like virtually every website on the Internet, the Site is delivered through third-party infrastructure providers — currently Cloudflare — that necessarily process limited technical information to respond to requests for web pages. That information may include IP addresses, browser and device characteristics, requested URLs, timestamps, and similar technical information used for network security, troubleshooting, and service reliability.
The Site operator does not routinely access, analyze, correlate, profile, market with, or otherwise use this information to identify individual visitors or understand their browsing behavior. Retention and processing of infrastructure logs are governed by the hosting provider's own operational practices rather than by the Site operator. Consult Cloudflare's own privacy policy for details of what it logs.
The Site may rely upon third-party providers to deliver web content securely and reliably, including web hosting, domain name services, content delivery networks, transport-layer security, and similar infrastructure services. Any processing of technical information performed by those providers is governed by their own privacy policies, not this one.
Because the Site does not engage in behavioral tracking, advertising, or cross-site profiling, it does not alter its operation in response to browser "Do Not Track" signals.
The Site is a general-audience publication about local ballot-measure issues, is not directed toward children, and does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children under 13.
Because the Site intentionally stores little or no visitor personal information, the privacy risks associated with unauthorized disclosure are correspondingly limited. Nevertheless, reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational measures are used to maintain the integrity and availability of the Site. No Internet transmission or electronic storage system can be guaranteed completely secure.

The Site operator receives no personal information directly from visitors except to the extent a visitor voluntarily initiates communication with the Site operator — for example, by sending an email.
The infrastructure logs described in Section 3 exist solely to allow infrastructure providers to deliver web pages reliably and securely. Where a visitor voluntarily initiates communication with the Site operator, that communication is used to respond to the visitor and for legal compliance where applicable. The Site operator does not use any personal information for advertising, profiling, analytics, marketing, or any other business or commercial purpose.
Because the Site operator does not sell or share personal information, as those terms are defined under California law, requests to opt out ordinarily will not result in any operational change. The Site does not collect or process sensitive personal information, as defined by California law, and therefore does not use or disclose it for any purpose beyond those permitted under that law.
The Site operator does not determine the retention period for infrastructure logs maintained by third-party providers. Those providers retain information according to their own operational practices. The Site operator retains no personal information directly, because none is collected apart from those logs.
The Site does not use automated decision-making, profiling, or similar technologies to make decisions concerning visitors.
The Site does not participate in cross-context behavioral advertising.
California law may provide residents with rights relating to access, correction, deletion, portability, limitation of certain uses, and protection against discrimination. Because the operator intentionally maintains little or no personal information concerning visitors, there ordinarily will be little or no information available to provide, correct, delete, or transfer in response to a request. Nothing in this policy limits any rights provided by applicable law.
You, or an authorized agent submitting a request on your behalf, may contact us using the details in Section 13. An authorized agent may be required to provide written authorization confirming the agent's authority to act on the visitor's behalf. The Site operator reserves the right to request additional information reasonably necessary to verify the identity or authority of the requesting person; because the Site holds no accounts or stored personal information, verification will typically be limited to confirming the request itself. We will respond within the period required under applicable California law.
Under California's "Shine the Light" law, California residents may request certain information about disclosures of personal information to third parties for those third parties' direct marketing purposes. The Site does not disclose personal information to third parties for their direct marketing purposes.
Technology changes over time. If the Site later introduces features that materially alter its privacy practices — such as newsletters, visitor accounts, comment functionality, analytics platforms, advertising technologies, or interactive services — this Privacy Policy will be revised before those features become operational.
